Sunday Worship

Overview

Time

We'd love to have you join us for church on Sundays at 9.30 am.

Children

Children are welcome. We have a special talk for children followed by Sunday School or play time, while the adults continue their service.

Content

During the service you will hear readings from  the Bible and from the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg.

Sermons are about 20 minutes long and focus on how we can live a better, more productive life by using the Lord's principles to guide us.

Our Philosophy of Worship

Our goal is to create a worship service that includes;

Humility

Worship creates an awareness that all the joy, gladness, peace and blessing in our lives comes from our Creator. It enhances our awareness that we rely on Him for all we have.

Reflection

Worship creates a space for us to look at our lives with perspective. It can also be a time to consider how the teaching in the Lord's word applies to our lives.

Charity

Worship is about teaching us to be caring human beings. Facts are not most important. Creating and supporting a desire to live well, and to act fairly and with consideration, are the main purposes of worship.

Learning

A worship service should help us to see truths and their practical relevance to our lives.

Adoration

Worship is a place for honouring, praising and thanking God.

Freedom

The Lord respects our freedom, allowing us to decide what we understand and believe. We worship him based on what we understand to be true.

Outreach

Congregation members have chosen to reach out to those less fortunate than themselves. They have devoted their energy to three main projects;

Providing ongoing support to Sea View Missionary Pre Primary School.

A class of Kainon School children visits Seaview almost every month of the school year. The students provide disadvantaged children with materials and assistance in doing art, music, and ball skills activities. One of the Kainon students had this to say about her experience: “Kainon’s outreach with Seaview gives us a chance to show those less fortunate than ourselves that there is good in the world. It also teaches us ways to show we care.”

Kainon School also hosts a Christmas party once a year for the children from Seaview. The grade 6’s and 7’s plan the day’s activities and run little stalls of fun projects and activities. The grade 1- 3’s take the children to each stall helping them and looking after them.

Visiting Providence Rest Home.

Kainon School visits Providence Rest Home, which is near to the school, whenever possible. The children sing songs and talk to the residents, as well as invite them to many activities at the school. At Christmas time, the grade 4 and 5 children each choose and buy a gift for the residents from their own pocket money.

In the picture the students can be seen during a 2006 visit just before break-up day. They sang Christmas carols and spent time speaking to the residents, learning the valuable skill of communicating with people of all ages, as well as bringing a huge amount of joy to the residents, who were thankful for their enthusiastic Christmas cheer.

Helping Establish Pre Primary Facilities in Rural Impaphala.

New Church Westville has helped its sister congregation in Impaphala establish facilities for a Pre Primary.

In 2006 the children, parents and staff of Kainon Pre Primary and Kainon Schools got together materials, training and a work party to help establish Impaphala Pre Primary. People from the church and schools continue to visit and support the school.
Vivienne Riley, a former teacher at Kainon School said, “I would like to say well done to all schools that take on any outreach activity, and do what you can. It is not always

possible, as schools take on more and more responsibilities, but so many schools do, and it is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to help uplift others less fortunate than ourselves.

“Happiness in a useful life? Yes, when you see each child taking part and feeling useful and hands on, you can see the happiness on each child’s face. You can also know in your heart that they are making a lasting difference."
